Reference: rotary valves for grinding a range of materials
Working together to achieve a common goal: maintaining quality when producing animal feed and more besides
Good standards of health and well-being in livestock have a positive impact on the quality of our food: in other words, animals that are given high-quality feed will in turn produce high-quality meat. Additionally, certain types of feed can cause specific aromatic compounds to arise in meat, impacting its taste and smell.
Grinding mills are an essential part of manufacturing high-quality feed – and rotary valves play a prominent role in the processes that take place inside them. Located near Hamburg, Tietjen Verfahrenstechnik GmbH relies on rotary valves from Scheuch COMPONENTS to manufacture its mills. The company uses these components in the feed industry and beyond, extending to recycling, wood and fibre applications.
Perform better
Economical production and optimized use of capacity in grinding processesTietjen Verfahrenstechnik GmbH machines can be found operating in all kinds of situations worldwide, and feature a resilient design that is easy to maintain. In a grinding system, a range of components need to work together with precision to achieve an efficient outcome – and rotary valves are one of the key elements in this. With its tight-fitting, antistatic elastic sealing lips, the zsl rotary valve ensures an exceptional level of tightness that allows virtually no air to leak through. It is also both explosion-pressure-shock resistant and flameproof, eliminating potentially negative consequences arising from an explosion affecting upstream or downstream processes.
Whether the material it is dealing with is gritty, powdery, fibrous or granular, a rotary valve’s main task is to create a highly effective air seal and ensure reliable decoupling. This keeps the production process economical and uses the mill capacity as efficiently as possible. Established companies including J. Müller Weser GmbH & Co. KG, UNA-HAKRA Hanseatische Kraftfuttergesellschaft mbH and a range of feed mills operated by Raiffeisen enjoy the benefits that Scheuch COMPONENTS rotary valves deliver.
An essential component
Scheuch COMPONENTS rotary valvesThere are different types of rotary valves to suit different requirements. In the case of conveyed materials that are at risk of explosion, a suitable ATEX-compliant valve design is chosen on the basis of dust parameters. The rotary valves used in these cases can also be equipped with both internal and external explosion protection features in the required zones. If the rotary valve is designed to act as a protective system, a detector system ensures that it is brought to an immediate stop in the event of an explosion, preventing any burning or smouldering materials or sparks from getting through.

What requirements do rotary valves need to meet?
Explosion protection is really important to us because we transport materials at risk of explosion in our systems. Our requirements cover Zone 20 (21) in internal areas and Zone 22 in external areas.
Our systems also ensure an explosion pressure shock resistance level of 0.4 bar. The rotary valves in them are configured for levels higher than this, which means that they easily meet our demands. This gives us the security of knowing that ambient air is kept completely isolated from downstream containers, allowing us to maintain quality standards.
Additionally, our conveyed media reach temperatures of up to 45 degrees Celsius and we need to process as much as 60 tonnes per hour. Scheuch COMPONENTS has what it takes to accommodate all these requirements with ease.
What tasks do rotary valves perform in your systems?
Our grinding modules operate in a negative-pressure environment, which means that a vacuum process takes place in the hammer mill. Because of this, it is extremely important to prevent any external air from getting into the container – otherwise, the aspiration process in the mill will not work properly. In addition to maintaining an air seal, the rotary valves play an essential role in ensuring effective decoupling.
Why did you opt for Scheuch COMPONENTS?
It was the exceptional value for money that first persuaded us, and we were also impressed by how quickly the company was able to handle our enquiries. The Scheuch COMPONENTS team consistently proved themselves to be efficient and engaged, ensuring that our projects were able to progress smoothly. It’s especially important to mention our experience with Mr Lang, who showed exceptional expertise and professionalism. His specialist knowledge and advice helped us identify the very best solutions for our needs. Last but not least, the relatively fast lead times were another selling point. Overall, we are extremely happy with our choice and have greatly enjoyed working together.
Are you planning any other projects involving Scheuch COMPONENTS?
Definitely! Scheuch COMPONENTS is our number-one choice, so we’ll be returning there for more quotes in the future. At the moment, we are working on a project involving a radial fan and are hoping to establish another successful partnership with the company here too.
